Quantum Computing can and will do everything and Star Trek is to blame for this

Quantum computing will - eventually - be an immensely useful technology.

There are few people who doubt that. I am not one of them. I think this technology will be great. I think the same of nuclear fusion. In fact, I firmly believe that the first universal quantum computer will be powered by a nuclear fusion reactor.

... and this is all the fault of Star Trek.

Ever since Lt. Geordi La Forge, Lt. Commander Data and others brought up some "Quantum" stuff for many sources of trouble and/or solutions, it is burned into many peoples brains that quantum computing will be just super fantastic and magically will solve things.

But today - 2025 that is - Quantum Computing is not really all that useful. Because there really is no real quantum computer. At least not a computer in the traditional sense - some thing that can run any type of programs.

What we definitely have today is a lot of hype and FUD around quantum computing.

This site is an attempt to document this hype and FUD especially around cryptography.
